The northeastern provinces of Kratie, Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri, some of the most remote areas in the country, are home to much of Cambodia's vanishing wildlife and forest, and some landscapes of outstanding natural beauty. Ratanakiri is an isolated province in Eastern Cambodia on the border with Vietnam and home to various ethnic minorities, elephants, waterfalls and pristine jungle. There are many chunchiet cemeteries scattered throughout the forests of Ratanakiri. Voen Sai is about 35km northwest of Ban Lung, from which it is a one-hour boat ride to Kachon, which has an impressive Tompuon cemetery in the forest beyond the village. Some of these tombs have effigies of the deceased and date back many years and have been abandoned to the jungle.
