Laos
Southern Laos is not regularly visited by travelers, despite the fact that this
part is the most traditional Lao region of Laos. Most travel to or from Phnom
Penh (Cambodia) or Bangkok (Thailand) Beautifully situated along the Mekong
River banks, most of Southern Laos villages offer fascinating glimpses into
traditional river-style village life. Si Phan Don (four thousand islands) is
situated just north of the Cambodian border in the Mekong River roughly 1000km
south of Luang Prabang and Vientiane. It offers (basic) hotels and guesthouses
in a tranquil setting, a perfect place for travelers and backpackers to enjoy
beautiful sunsets.
